From the 1st of November to the 3rd of November, our beloved ACG Wolves Senior Volleyball team attended the annual ASAC Volleyball Tournament in Hanoi, Vietnam. Our senior boys and girls team came face to face with seven different schools from all around Asia. These schools included Wells, Logos and ISHMC. During the tournament, athletes Sofia Ruda and Danu Yulianto won the MVP awards and the Fairplay Champion awards, making our school extremely proud of them. Our team from the ACG Times were given the opportunity to interview the captains – Shizuka and Alisha – of the ACG Wolves Volleyball teams on their experience throughout the three days.
We first asked them how the entire trip has shaped the team and them as a person.
Alisha informed us that the trip allowed them to learn more about each other and how situations impact their motivation as a whole, learn how to improve communications as a team and motivating each other during games. She said that the team has improved sportsmanship and have learned where improvement is required in games.
As for Shizuka, he replied that the team was definitely excited for the trip and they were intimidated by the gap of skill between schools, but that however motivated the team to perform better.
Next, we inquired them on what areas they feel the team needs improvement in.
Alisha said that the team needs to improve trust on each other, improve passing and bumps and maintaining control between each member. As for Shizuka, he said that they need to improve on skills and techniques, bumps and passing and the spikers also needs improvement.
We also asked them about the issues occurred throughout the event. And how did the team overcome it.
Alisha told us that the skill gap between ACG and opponents was quite large, and caused demotivation to the team. She told us that they had a issue with maintaining the morale of the team and maintaining a positive attitude, but it was an extraordinary experience regardless.
Shizuka told us that the team struggled with blocking during games, firstly caused by skill gap. The team was intimidated by lack of experience compared to other schools, however he taught the team to trust each other and maintain sportsmanship.
They both agreed that it was a fruitful experience overall and it was a good challenge for our Wolves since it was their very first international tournament for volleyball. Hopefully, our teams will be able to compete and do even better in the next ASAC tournament, and we wish the other sports teams the very best for their ASAC tournaments this year.
