Is it annoying to see your feed full of rants about climate change? Does it frustrate you to know that your favourite brand of junk food is stealing your money in exchange for a dying earth? Is it boring to see the same sad, angry, guilt-tripping posts on Instagram? You can help quiet down the ruckus! By picking up trash!
On the 25th of August, most of us gathered at the crack of dawn (7:30 am) in school to pick up trash nearby. A lot of people came to participate in Clean Up Jakarta Day. Primary kids, secondary students, parents and teachers all came together for the betterment of our city. It was comforting to know how much people wanted to improve our condition in the hopes of saving the earth. That day, we were able to pick up a total of 78 kilograms of trash.
More recently, on the 21st of September, we partook in Hari Bersih Indonesia, where we picked up more trash in a different area (Tebet). Starting earlier this time (at 7:00 am), we joined forces again as a group of students, parents and teachers to gather as much garbage as far as the eye can see. After collecting the trash, some of us performed for other participants of the event.
If you feel helpless, remember that you’re always welcome in the next one! Fixing our planet starts with baby steps, where everyone is involved. Let’s get rid of those recurring posts and story updates little by little together!
