Being a young member in a group where responsibility and courage is needed can be incredibly daunting, especially when the eyes of the school community are on you at all times. In ACG, the student council plays a big role in ensuring that events run smoothly and catering to the wants and needs of the students. Our team from the ACG Times had the privilege of interviewing members Ryan Thornley from Year 7 and Sarah Miski from Year 8 on their experiences so far with the student council.
The first question we asked was how they felt when they were first selected as a representative of their year group from the student council, since it was a big deal to be selected out of every student in a year.
Ryan told us that he felt special and of course he was pleased. As for Sarah, she told us that she was very grateful and felt like she was being trusted by the other students in her year group.
Next, we asked them if they were a senior, what kind of events would they have, since usually the seniors took the leadership roles when in came to decision-making in the student council.
Ryan informed us that he would host a sporting event, one maybe including soccer, and also an e-sports event if he was given the chance to. Sarah on the other hand told us that if she could, she would host an event that happens every few weeks or a school prom.
Besides that, we asked them what their most memorable moment with the student council was.
Ryan told us that his most memorable event was the Secret Santa event that was a huge success for the student council. As for Sarah, she said that all of the events were memorable for her as she felt good after having them as holding events with the student council made her feel proud and like she belonged.
Lastly, we inquired them on the skills they have learned so far from the student council.
Ryan said that he learned to be more cooperative after working with the other members of the student council. As for Sarah, she said that she has improved in organising her time as being a member of the student council took a lot of commitment. She also informed us that she learned how to plan better, be more social with other students as well as be more open-minded.
