Like many of the other events by the Student Council, Spirit Week was a blast. Everyday of the week had its own theme (Malas Monday, Twin Tuesday, Meme Wednesday, Throwback Thursday and Fandom Friday), with different games to match the respective theme. For each day, there was a student chosen for the best costume as an encouragement for everyone to dress their best.
The week started off with Malas Monday. The games for that day were: “Sack Race,” “Shoe Fly Shoe,” where we had one minute to attempt landing a sandal on the table with our feet, “What’s in the Box?,” where we had to guess the object with a blindfold on, and “Pillow Relay,” where we had to race facing the wall with a pillow under our heads. The winner for that day was Laura from Year 8, who wore her Spongebob pajamas.
Following Malas Monday was Twin Tuesday. For that day, the games were meant to be played with your twin, namely the “Three-legged Race,” “On the Rebound,” and “Ready Spaghetti.” For “On the Rebound,” your twin would have a clipboard tied around their waist and you would throw a ping pong ball at the board, with your twin directing the ball into a trash bin near them. “Ready Spaghetti” required you and your partner to balance a soda can held by an uncooked string of spaghetti. You and your partner would have the each end of the string in your mouth and move in sync until the finish line. For Tuesday, the costume winners were Lorenzo and Philip from Year 7 for their creative matching shirts.
Memes were the centre for “It’s Wednesday, my dudes.” The games for that day revolved around social media and the legendary memes of our generation started by Vine and Tiktok. The students played “Dance that TikTok Song,” “Chubby Bunny,” “Deez Nuts,” where you had to stack nuts and bolts with a ruler, and “Spoon Pepe,” where you have two teaspoons stacked on each other with the objective of getting the second spoon into a cup by smashing the first one. The costume competition winner for ‘It’s Wednesday, my dudes” was Ariq from Year 7.
For Throwback Thursday, students came in dressed up in fresh retro outfits. That day, most of the students participated in the “Whole School Musical Chairs,” with old, throwback songs played as background music. It was nerve-wracking and the audience had started taking sides, but in the end, Zara from Year 10 ultimately won the game. The winner for Throwback Thursday was Lola, who had a pretty red dress on.
Fandom Friday came too quickly. It was very thrilling to see students dressed up as their favourite characters and celebrities. That day, students played “Skribbl.io,” “Celebrity Heads up,” and “Character Charades.”
Besides the students being enthusiastic for Spirit Week (evident in how most had participated in dressing up for each day), the Student Council was pleased with the event, as well. The prefects in particular were grateful that a lot of people played the games and happy that a lot of the students dressed up. Isabel, in Year 12, said that she felt as though they accomplished the goal of having together-ness at school. Be sure to look forward to more fun events in school!
