Most of us, if not all of us, have been swayed by Willard Smith’s, more commonly known as Will Smith, many talents. Over the years, he has accumulated a large fanbase for his rapping and his acting, both of which have been praised for appealing to a wide audience. His hard work that gave him his success is definitely a trait we admire.
Smith had realised from early on in his childhood that his passions lied in music and entertainment, which he decided this was the career path he would pursue in the future. When he was only 16 years old, he and his friend of three years, Jeffrey Townes, formed a duo called “DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.” Smith was the Fresh Prince; this alias was self-made, after his schoolmates had started calling him “Prince Charming” (no shocker there). He had chosen “Fresh Prince” over “Prince Charming” to adhere to his new path towards making music. Their first single was “Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble” in 1986, but it was not until 1988 when the duo won their first Grammy Award for their astounding single “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” This was the first Grammy awarded in the rap performance category.
As mentioned above, Smith’s music appealed to a lot of listeners. The duo’s songs were characterised as “light rap” as the lyrics and themes of their work were missing the “hard core” feeling of normal rap. The duo’s fame gave rise to platinum certified recording, along with accompanying videos. Their growing popularity was recognised by television producers, and so started Smith’s acting career.
He first began acting in the sitcom “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which started in 1990. This was loosely based on Smith’s real life experiences. The show had six seasons, but it came to its end as per Smith’s request. While the show was going on, Smith was nominated twice for the Golden Globe Awards.
After the sitcom, Smith transitioned to acting in movies and films. His acting was good, but things changed for him after his work in the action comedy-thriller “Bad Boys” in 1995. The movie made more than $100 million world wide. After that, he was a part of a number of other successful films, some of which were nominated for awards such as the “Academy Awards” and the “Oscars.” His success in the film industry did not mean that he abandoned his music career, as he dropped his first solo album in 1997, entitled “Big Willie Style.”
Will Smith now lives peacefully with his family as he bathes in his hard-earned success. He is still active in his acting career, a few of his latest contributions being in “Bad Boys for Life” and “Spies in Disguise.” We should look forward to more of his future movies, and we can look up to him for trying his best from the beginning to get to where he is now.
